Early Life and Education

Dave Turin was born on April 21, 1959, in Sandy, Oregon. With his three brothers, he grew up in the foothills of Mt. Hood, where he developed a passion for hunting. He also helped with his family's successful rock quarry business. Turin attended Sandy Union High School.

Gold Rush

Turin rose to international fame with his appearances on the Discovery Channel reality television series "Gold Rush," which premiered in late 2010. The show focuses on a number of family-run professional mining crews and their operations in various places. In the show's third season, in 2012, Turin's mining team merged with Todd Hoffman's team and managed to mine 803 ounces of gold, worth over $1.28 million. Turin worked with the Hoffman crew for many seasons of "Gold Rush," mining gold in Alaska, Oregon, Colorado, and Guyana, among other places. During that time, their biggest haul was in 2015, when they mined 3,032 ounces worth over $3 million. Turin left the show after season seven following a physical altercation with his co-worker Trey Poulson.

In 2019, Turin launched the "Gold Rush" spinoff series "Dave Turin's Lost Mine," on which he showcased new mining operations at abandoned gold mines in the American West. The show's first season focused on a placer mine along Lynx Creek near Prescott Valley, Arizona, with Turin's crew digging up 80 ounces of gold worth a total of around $96,000. In the second season, centered on a placer mine along Silver Creek near Marysville, Montana, Turin and his crew mined a little over 225 ounces worth $340,000.

For the third season of "Dave Turin's Lost Mine," Turin and his crew worked at a placer mine along Box Creek in Lake County, Colorado before concluding at Lynx Creek in Arizona. They concluded the season with a total of over 600 ounces worth more than $1 million. Tragically, crew member Jesse Goins died of a heart attack while filming the season. A fourth season, centered on a placer mine along Glacier Creek near Valdez, Alaska, saw Turin and his team dig up 463 ounces of gold worth over $800,000. Turin went on to retire from mining in 2022, with his sendoff and sale of his Valdez Glacier Creek claim airing on the regular "Gold Rush" show in 2023.

America's Backyard Gold

After the end of "Dave Turin's Lost Mine," Turin began hosting the show "America's Backyard Gold" on Discovery and Max. On the show, which premiered in 2024, he showcases an array of small-time prospectors digging for gold across the United States.

Personal Life

With his wife Shelly, who was his high school sweetheart, Turin has three children. His hobbies include golfing. Turin also does speaking gigs around the world for businesses, trade shows, and churches, with topics including mining, safety, and family.
